HI friends, We all know that what is religious(Dharmik) reason for the celebration of Lohri and Makar Sankranti. But do you know what is the Scientific reason behind the celebration of Lohri and Makar Sankranti? Let's explore the world of Science.

In the past, when our ancestors were studying about the upcoming and outgoing of winters and summers. They came to know that there is a time period after which the winters start to retreat. They came to know that when the sun observed from earth goes to north direction then the atmosphere of India starts becoming warm and warm. Similarly, when the sun is observed moving south, the atmosphere of India starts to become cold and cold as the sun moves to the south. The moving of the sun in the south is known as Dakshiayana(दक्षिणायन) and the moving the sun in the south is known as Uttarayana(उत्तरायण). Modern science also tells us the same.

In Sikhism, the scientific reason behind the celebration of Lohri is that
They celebrate the Lohri as the final day of the winters. In Lohri, the wood is collected from the neighbours and relatives and burnt in chowk to conserve the energy and environment. Because if people burn the wood different-different this creates more pollution and less energy is gained by the people-(1).So the wood is collected and burnt in chowk that creates less pollution and more energy is gained by the people as compared to (1).

In Hinduism, the scientific reason behind the celebration of the Makar Sankranti is that
They celebrate the Makar Sankrati for the first day of the Uttarayana. Hindu calendar calculates that when will be the first day of the Uttarayana in year.
